1914-15 Star awarded to 7/4834 Cpl. Henry John Appleby, 7th battalion Royal Irish Rifles. Henry Appleby lived in Poplar, London, he was a warehouseman by trade. Appleby joined the Army on the 23rd. April 1915 in Belfast. He embarked on the 22nd. of December 1915 with the British Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders. He served there until August 1917 and returned to the theatre of war the following year in July 1918. Put on class Z reserve 8/3/1919. The Royal Irish Rifles were re-named Royal Ulster Rifles in January 1921.
