1914-15 Star awarded to 7/253 Gnr. Edward Freeman Palmer, New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Born in 1887, a farm labourer by trade, he joined the Army in 1914. Palmer first served with the 10th. Squadron, Canterbury Mounted Rifles. Whilst serving in Gallipoli he was taking wounded men to the beach where a shell burst within a few feet of him, knocking him unconscious. He was sent to a hospital ship in Lemnos and later transported to England. On January the 1st. 1916 Palmer was transferred to Artillery training at High Wycombe. He was transferred to the New Zealand Field Artillery 8/5/1916 and later discharged on 15/12/1916. The Star is impressed 7/253 Gnr. E.F. Palmer N.Z.E.F. Comes with copy of full service papers.
