French 1831 Artillery Sword And Scabbard.

Often referred to as the cabbage cutter. These swords were designed in the style of the Roman gladius and were used by the French Artillery. This is the 1831 pattern, the blade is marked – Chatelleraut 1833 with various acceptance stamps. The other side of the blade is marked – Pihet Freres (Pihet Brothers). The Pihet Brothers gave financial support to the Chatelleraut sword manufacturers from 1831 when they built new premises. There are also some stamps to the brass hilt. There is a little pitting to the blade otherwise condition good. Complete with brass furnished leather scabbard which is in very good condition overall.
