Military Medal And Bar Group  with 1914-15 Trio awarded to 2000 Pte. Henry Gartland 6th. Battalion Durham Light Infantry. Born in 1895 in Thornley, County Durham and later moved to Leadgate in 1905. He was a miner/hewer by trade. After a move to Golden Lion Yard in Morley, Leeds he enlisted in the Army . He served with the 13th and 6th. Battalion, Durham Light Infantry and the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He entered the theatre of war in France and Flanders on the 19th. April 1915. Whilst serving in the 6th. Battalion, D.L.I. he was promoted to corporal and attached to the 23rd. Light Trench Mortar Battery, 151st. Brigade. He was awarded the Military Medal twice, listed in the London Gazette – 9/10/1918, 23/10/1918, 21/101918 and 7/10/1918. Sadly Corporal Henry Gartland was Killed In Action on the 5th. October 1918. He is remembered with honour at Beaurevoir British Cemetery in France. The military Medal is numbered 250131 and the regiment is prefixed with the Battalion number – 6. The trio is numbered 2000. Both service numbers are listed on his index card and on the medal rolls.
