First World War Mercantile Marine Medal Group consisting of British War Medal, Mercantile Marine Medal and Victory medal. Awarded to 258121 Spr. George Ritchie, Royal Engineers. George Ritchie served as a Master Mariner in the Inland Water Transport Section of the Royal Engineers. A resident of Glasgow, Ritchie was a Master Mariner by trade, he joined the Army in 1917 and served until he discharged – no longer physically fit for War service at the age of 57 years and six months. He was discharged from 2nd. Southern General Hospital, Bristol in May 1918 when he returned to Glasgow on sick furlough.
