First World War Trio And Long Service Medal Group awarded to W341390 Chief Armourer Walter Thomas Garraway, Royal Navy. Born 6/11/1877 in Barrow in Furness Garraway was a former fitter by trade. He joined the Royal Navy on the 25th. November 1886 serving onboard Wildfire, Vernon, Pembroke, Sparrow, Scylla, Sans Pareil, Resolution,, Swiftsure, Bullwark, Shannon, Endymion, King Edward V11, The battleship Dominion and finally on Commonwealth where he was demobolised in November 1919. Whilst onboard HMS King Edward V11 the ship was mined off the coast of Scotland on the 6th. January 1916. The mine had been layed by the German Auxiliary Cruiser SMS Mowe. HMS King Edward V11 crew were all evacuated to several destroyers. The ship was abandoned and later sank.
