WW1 Victory Medal awarded to 892128 Pte. John Hewes 8th. Canadian Infantry. Born in 1884, Nottingham, England. A carpenter by trade, he joined the Army in March 1916, enlisting in Winnipeg. Hewes served with the 190th. Btn., 8th. Reserve Btn. and the 8th. Btn. Canadian Infantry. In November 1917 he suffered a gun shot wound to the abdomen and was invalided to England and posted to the Manitoba Regiment. Sadly John Hewes died of his wounds on New Years Day 1918, aged 33. He is remembered with honour at Nottingham Northern Cemetery. Comes with copy of full service papers.
