WWI Pair PLY17449 PTE. Jeramiah Desmond R.M.L.I Born – 11/02/1896, Cork and enlisted in Plymouth 14/10/1914.
During his war service on HMS Snaefell, the ship was struck by a torpedo from a German U-boat UB-IOS (Wilhezm Marschall) 240 miles ESE of the Malta coast.
The ship sank after one hour.
Three lives were lost as result of the torpedo explosion, (5/6/1918).
PTE Desmond was discharged in July 1935 after 21 years of service.
He then re-enlisted in January 1936 and died in November 1956 (Awarded 1914/15 Trio and long service and good conduct medal)
(Unit stamping is partially scrubbed of war medal)
