WWI Group WWI PTE. Edmund Philip Duffield 8th BTN. York & Lancaster – KIA

Born in 1895,  Newcastle Upon Tyne.

The Former Labourer joined the army in November 1914.

From depot he as posted he was posted to the 8th (service BTN), then to the 3rd (reserve BTN), briefly with the 14th BTN. (2nd Barnsley pals)

And back to the 8th BTN entered France and Flanders – 27th August 1915, fractured his leg in 1916.

Pte Duffield had several minor offences (mainly absence from duty).

He sustained an accidental injury to his right leg after being kicked by a horse that he was giving water to when it was spooked by artillery fire.

Sadly Edmund Philip Duffield was killed in action on the 15th of September 1917, aged 22.

He is remembered with honour – Tyne COT Memorial (panel 125-128) Medals and plaque are in a period oak frame.
