North Irish Horse Staybrite Cap Badge, maker marked Smith and Wright Ltd. The North Irish Horse started life on the formation of the Territorial Force in 1908. It’s previous title was The North of Ireland Imperial Yeomanry. in 1969 it was reduced to Squadron strength and became part of the Queen’s Own Yeomanry on it’s formation in 1971. This anodised aluminium version of the badge was introduced during the mid 1950’s but became obsolete in 1971 when they became a Squadron within the QOY where they retained their North Irish Horse collar badges but adopted the new Queen’s Own Yeomanry badge. Quite a scarce badge in staybrite.
